On March 14th, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to cut funding to libraries and museums by shrinking the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) as much as legally possible. The reasoning behind all of this is to “save money.” This, however, is somewhat pointless as the percentage of the money being saved in just .003% of the federal budget. All of this could cause museums in Washington DC (lets face it, that’s a lot of museums) and around the country to have to charge more admission or have fewer things to share with the public. Damaged books in libraries may never be replaced and libraries may close or cut back on hours and programming. The American Library Association said “It will have an enormous impact in communities nationwide.”
