Martin Luther King Jr day at the lower school is a day of celebrating his birthday, and we don’t have school on the 20th so the events start at four, and it is open to the community. But why is he so important? Martin Luther King Jr was a pioneer in Black Rights and is recognized everywhere in the United States. MLK day is on January 20th and the Roeper community choir will be singing “What’s Going On”, by Marvin Gaye and “Precious Lord” which is MLKs favorite hymn.
this is the schedule for MLK day. 4:00: Family Discussion & Activities
5:00: Donuts, Cider, & Hot Chocolate
5:30: Ceremony & Entertainment
6:30: March & Closing Ceremony
The speakers will be Christopher, the board chair, director of development, RPC’s vice president of DEIJ, the senior class president, a Roeper alumni, and an open mic. The entertainment will include the upper school band, dancers and choir. Their will be a guest singer and Christopher will be playing the bagpipes outside the domes. Stage three will be doing a dance and have a singer. The march is where you walk from the CCB to the domes carrying electric candles, thinking about the legacy of MLK.
